Ground broke a little over a year ago on the 10,000-square-foot facility, which is part of the district’s educational village where Cypress Park High School opened last August. Cypress Park Principal Chris Hecker said being able to immediately provide quality health services will not only benefit the students’ health, but their academic success as well. GNHC’s first client was a Cypress Park student, he said. “As we know, health care is extremely important to the success of our students and staff,” Hecker said. “We’re excited to offer that opportunity to our parents [and] to our students.” The new facility comes from a partnership between CFISD and Good Neighbor Healthcare Center, a nonprofit that builds federally qualified clinics bringing affordable care to underserved communities in the Houston area. In May 2015, the board of trustees approved the plan to offer both pediatric and adult care, dental, vision, vaccinations, OB/GYN, mental health, nutrition, psychiatry and behavioral health services. Transportation is available to students at Cypress Springs and Cypress Lakes high schools in addition to Hopper, Kahla, Thornton and Watkins middle schools. The clinic is open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. 713-387-7180. www.ghnc.org
