Siukey Payne, owner of The Cast Iron Café in the Cy-Fair Village Shopping Center on Grant Road, is bringing healthier options to the coffee table. The menu at her cafe, which opened April 10, emphasizes vegetables, organics and fresh ingredients.
“I look for ways to take foods that people love and make them healthier without taking away from the flavor,” Payne said. “It’s a misconception that a dish can’t be good for you and full of flavor at the same time.”
Popular menu items include the organic salads, chicken wraps and empanadas, Payne said. The many vegetable-only items on the menu are packed with freshly cut kale, sun-dried tomatoes, peppers, olives and eggplant. The cafe also offers coffees, teas and desserts.
The cafe gets its name from the use of cast iron in the kitchen. Payne said she is in the process of adding more items to the menu.
“In South America where I’m from, cooking with cast iron is known to enhance the flavors of food,” she said. “The people who find us and are willing to give us a shot are not disappointed.”
