That passion has carried over into adulthood as she has illustrated thousands of colorful and distinctive typographic works. Whitehead, who lives in Cypress, comes from a family of artists—six of her aunts on both sides of her family also have a background in art. Lindsay Whitehead Whitehead can spend up to 18 hours drawing one of her illustrations. She began drawing as a hobby and was able to turn it into a business by creating an Etsy store.[/caption] “When I graduated high school, I decided I couldn’t live without a creative career,” she said. Whitehead studied media arts and illustration at the Art Institute of Houston and after college she held graphic design jobs until one of her projects became a viral hit in 2011. “I started illustrating quotes, which initially started as a personal project,” Whitehead said. “My work went viral online, and I couldn’t sell them quick enough.” Some of the illustrations feature colorful quotes by Julia Childs and Audrey Hepburn while others highlight more modern humor and Internet memes. “Color is really important to me,” Whitehead said. “It’s the most fulfilling aspect of my job.” Since her creations went viral, Whitehead has been approached to do illustrations for Trader Joe’s and a 365-day calendar by national publishing company, Workman. “People love the fact that [the prints] come from a real artist and not just a big company making generic prints,” she said.
