With polls closed and the votes counted, unofficial election results show Michael Brittain and Brian McCauley winning the races for Jersey Village City Council places 1 and 5, respectively.
The breakdown
Two candidates filed to run for City Council Place 1, currently held by council member Drew Wasson who did not seek reelection. Michael Brittain took the lead with 479 votes over challenger Curt Beasley, who had 443 votes across election day and early voting.
Additionally, Brian McCauley and Steven Gill sought Place 5 on the council, held by council member Jennifer McCrea, who is also not seeking a second term. McCauley narrowly beat Gill with 467 votes to Gill's 460 votes.
Also on the ballot
Additionally, the city held a special joint election for a proposition to extend the Fire Control Prevention and EMS District by 20 years and continue its sales tax revenue for the same period of time, according to the sample ballot. Voters approved the measure with 91.06% votes for and 8.94% against.
Voters established the district in 2021 for a five-year period to create a dedicated funding source for the Jersey Village Fire Department. As part of the transition, the city stopped using 0.5% of sales tax revenue for property tax relief and instead directed the funds to the fire and EMS district, Community Impact previously reported.
