In a Sept. 15 notice, officials with the West Harris County Regional Water Authority announced there will be no increase in water fees in 2024.

The background

This will be the first time in a full decade the WHCRWA has not increased water rates year over year for residents living southwest of Hwy. 290 in the Cy-Fair and Katy areas. The last increase was about 7% from 2022-23.

Water authorities in the Houston region are required to reduce groundwater usage to no more than 40% by 2025 to prevent further subsidence, or the sinking of the surface. Read more about those efforts here.
