The proposed projects could be presented as separate bonds on the ballot for public approval, Assistant City Manager Robert Basford said. No action was taken on this item during the meeting.
“We're currently in the estimation and sizing phase of the [pool and bathhouse] project, and we plan to have visuals at the pool in July. ... And we plan to get a [community] survey out this week and then have them at the park this weekend,” Basford said.
In May, City Council directed city staff to begin working with the financial advisory team as well as any consultant pertaining to the potential of conducting a bond election. The staff proposed the project in three options, ranging from $6 million-$11 million, as the scope of the project also includes other amenity options aside from the pool replacement.
The total value of all proposed improvement programs comes to a range between $47.8 million-$52.8 million, depending on what options will eventually be chosen by the public and approved for bond referendum, Basford said.
Progressive Commercial Aquatics is the company the city chose to work with on the pool-area redesign. Once the community has given feedback, the city will share that with the company so the plan can be finalized, Basford said.
“Given the large number of people that may have input on this, we're going to go with a QR code survey. ... Pool concepts will contain a ... set of amenities for the community to consider and choose from ... waterslides, ... sports amenities such as a volleyball net or basketball hoop, and the deck would have incorporated shade and seating throughout,” Basford said.
City officials said they expect a large turnout and subsequently a large volume of feedback this weekend for Independence Day celebrations. The city pool is located at Clark Henry Park, 7804 Equador St., Jersey Village. It has multiple amenities besides the pool, such as a pavilion, a playground, a picnic area and athletic fields.
