Following severe thunderstorms in late July that caused a collapse of FM 1097 at Atkins Creek, Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough announced in a Facebook post on Aug. 5 that the roadway was now fully open for traffic.

What you need to know

FM 1097 suffered a partial collapse in the wake of severe thunderstorms across the north Houston region on July 23, which caused the road to be completely closed by the Texas Department of Transportation. TxDOT crews began working on the bridge on July 27 after rerouting surrounding flood waters to allow crews to stabilize the rest of the bridge and begin reconstruction.

What they're saying

"I’m amazed at the work that TxDOT and the contractors have been able to complete in such a short period of time," Keough said. "The workers are taking a much-needed day off and will return this week to complete shoring up the surrounding areas with concrete to prevent any further erosion to the bridge area. Please continue to be cautious in the area as the workers return to finish their work."
