Multi-County Crime Stoppers, founded in 1981, is a nonprofit organization with the mission to assist local, state and federal law enforcement agencies within Montgomery, Liberty and San Jacinto counties locate wanted felony fugitives.

Jon Dumas, Multi-County Crime Stoppers board member, said 75% of felony fugitives featured on their website were arrested, and 14% were arrested due to anonymous tips from 2020-2023.

About the program

Made up of volunteer board members and law enforcement, Multi-County Crime Stoppers provides the public with a 24-hour tip line that is answered 365 days a year to allow people who wish to remain anonymous an opportunity to call in and leave information to assist local law enforcement agencies.

"We are about 20 volunteer board members, all local residents and business owners,” Dumas said. “Many of us have been doing this for 20-plus years.”


Anyone with a tip can reach Multi-County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-7867 or via the organization’s app. Those who submit tips with information that leads to an arrest or indictment of any felony suspect are granted a cash reward as an added incentive, according to the website.

The nonprofit’s other programs include:
  • Community grants: Funds are raised via donations to provide community grants to fight crime. According to the nonprofit’s website, grant awards have exceeded $325,000 since the beginning of the program in 2014.
  • The Safe School Program: Funds raised will be applied to the 168 schools across the 15 school districts in the three-county area at the discretion of Crime Stoppers.
  • An animal cruelty initiative: To reduce animal cruelty cases and help law enforcement officials bring criminals to justice, Multi-County Crime Stoppers is working with local task forces to offer rewards for information leading to the prosecution of animal abuse criminals.
The impact

Since the nonprofit's inception through Aug. 2, out of 33,314 total tips received, 2,619 arrests were made and 3,106 cases were cleared with 997 fugitives captured, according to the Multi-County Crime Stoppers website.

The website also includes weekly updates listing featured felons with confirmed active warrants in Montgomery, Liberty and San Jacinto counties.
