The R. F. Meador Branch Library in Willis was named one of 15 2024 Family Place Libraries Project grant recipients as of a December news release from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. The program was established statewide in 2015 to help public libraries address early learning.
About the program
Family Place Libraries feature a family-centered environment, helping caregivers of young children be their child's first teachers, according to the release.
According to the release, the grant will provide the Willis library with funding for the training and equipment necessary to:
- Host workshops for children ages 0-3 and their caregivers
- Develop an interactive space for children to play and learn in the library
- Forge partnerships with organizations serving young children and their families

The Central Branch Library of the MCMLS in Conroe received a $29,500 donation from the Library Friends of Conroe on Dec. 5 to support library programs, according to a news release from the organization.
“Our proceeds from the [book] Nook and our annual book sale help provide funds for various children and adult programs, supplies for these programs, additional books for this the shelves, and numerous other complimentary activities. We all agree a great library is a valuable asset to any community, and we will continue our efforts towards making this happen," said Joann Strauss, president of the Library Friends of Conroe, in the release.
