The Montgomery County Animal Shelter, located at 8535 Hwy. 242, Conroe, is waiving pet adoption fees in a two-day holiday event. The Adopt More Merry! event in partnership with Petco Love and BOBS from Skechers runs Dec. 17-18 at the county animal shelter. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 17 and noon-5 p.m. Dec. 18, pets will be available for adoption at no cost.

Petco Love President Susanne Kogut said in a Dec. 12 news release that the event is hosted to help encourage pet-friendly homes to consider pet adoption.

"No pet should spend any day, especially the holidays, without a loving family," Kogut said. "Adopting a pet fills your home with more love every day and will make your holiday's 'More Merrier.'"

Community Impact previously reported Montgomery County Animal Shelter director Aaron Johnson pleaded for help from the commissioner's court to help with intake issues. According to the most recent Save Rate Report in September, the shelter had 650 intakes with a save rate of 95.2 percent.

Kogut said in the news release the adoption event is just as important to the shelter workers as the adoptees.

"You will also make holiday wishes come true for the dedicated shelter workers who work tirelessly to save these pets," she said. "These mega adoption initiatives are really about filling communities with love—unconditional pet love."

All adoptions include vaccinations and include special offers from Petco.
