The contract with the law firm is not to exceed $75,000, per the agenda item. Previously, the council has brought forth questions about quorum rules in meetings, according to prior reporting.
“I was asked to bring this forward, I believe, a couple of meetings ago, based on discussions about quorum and issues like that,” City Attorney Mike Garner said during the May 7 workshop meeting. “The general discussion during that meeting was our charter is old, and it does need to be reviewed.”
The charter acts as the city's guiding document and outlines the rules and procedures for City Council and the city government.
