At its March 27 meeting, Conroe City Council approved $110,000 for Visit Conroe to fund marketing and assistance for four events to attract people to the city.

The details

According to the March 26 workshop meeting presentation, Conroe has received $1.8 million year-to-date in hotel occupancy tax, which is only to be used to promote tourism to the city.

Deputy City Administrator Nancy Mikeska said funds are given to the entities after reports have been submitted, and then receipts are monitored and must meet criteria.

Mikeska said the following events are anticipated to receive funding. The final payment amount is contingent on the expected expenditures of the event.
  • Archery Tournament: $50,000
  • Trifecta Fishing Bass Tour: $25,000
  • Major League Fishing/ Bass Pro Tour: $25,000
  • Montgomery County Fair & Rodeo: $15,000
Conroe previously received $2.9 million and $3.5 million in hotel occupancy tax revenue in 2023 and 2024, respectively, according to the presentation. Last September, City Council approved $210,000 in HOT funds for 16 arts and culture grant awards, as previously reported.
