Montgomery County commissioners approved a contract with LJA Engineering on Dec. 17 to begin preliminary work on a 2025 bond issue during the final commissioners court session of the year.

The details

The 10-month contract was approved unanimously by the court and authorizes LJA Engineering to begin preliminary work including:
  • Project assessment and organization
  • Public engagement on bond needs
  • Coordinating funding strategies with stakeholders
  • Supporting the sale of a bond initiative
The contract limits the firm to $10,000 for services within the 10-month period but can be amended at a later date.

In their words

"The first thing we would do is just help [commissioners] assemble the bond package that you would go to the to the voters with, and we proposed the idea of doing something that's been a little different than the previous bond packages," said Jeff Cannon, senior vice president of LJA Engineering, during the Dec. 10 meeting. "It's actually not just doing needs assessments and engaging but synthesizing those across the whole county and then actually take that out to the private industry and other cities, and see where you can leverage those monies with all the various people who stakeholders been involved."

According to prior Community Impact reporting, the county began identifying the need for a bond issue in late 2023, but pushed back the issue in 2024 due to a number of concerns by commissioners for the timing of the bond with the presidential election.
