During its Dec. 10 meeting, Montgomery City Council approved a $20,000 raise effective Dec. 10 to Chief of Police Anthony Solomon, who is acting as the interim city administrator.

The details

During a Nov. 18 special meeting, Montgomery City Council terminated the city’s contract with former City Administrator Gary Palmer and appointed Solomon as the interim city administrator. Since then, Solomon has been working to improve and restructure processes within the city, Mayor Sara Countryman said in a Dec. 11 interview.

“He's taking on the interim city administrator role and implementing workflow processes that are desperately needed,” Countryman said. “[Solomon’s] ensuring we restructure in a manner that when we do hire a new city administrator, all of this will be in place and ensure success.”

Solomon joined the city as police chief in 2019, per prior reporting.

In case you missed it

Former Assistant City Administrator Dave McCorquodale, who was terminated at that same Nov. 18 special meeting, filed a lawsuit against the city Nov. 25, according to prior reporting.

McCorquodale alleges the city’s termination of him was in retaliation for reporting allegations of fraudulent behavior by Solomon, Community Impact previously reported. McCorquodale alleges he discovered Solomon trying to pass a fraudulent employment agreement as legitimate to receive more benefits and a higher salary, according to a petition he filed in Montgomery County’s 284th Judicial District Court.

Countryman said she believes City Council members are not worried about giving Solomon a raise amid the ongoing lawsuit.

“Everybody's very confident in his ability to lead, fix and set us on the path to move forward for success,” Countryman said.

Also of note

During the Dec. 10 meeting, City Council also approved combining the roles of code enforcement and planning development director into one position with a raise of $8,500.
