The city of Montgomery will hold three town hall sessions regarding the proposed crime control and prevention district, which will be on the ballot for voters on Nov. 5.

In a nutshell

The proposed CCPD would help fund the Montgomery Police Department through sales tax revenue. If voters approve its creation, a portion of the sales tax revenue that goes to the Montgomery Economic Development Corp. would instead go to the CCPD.

The CCPD could potentially fund items such as police officers; recruitment and training; and equipment, according to prior reporting.

How we got here

Montgomery City Council first discussed the potential of creating a CCPD in mid-May and in August, formally voted to put its creation in front of voters on Nov. 5.
