During its Aug. 13 regular meeting, Montgomery City Council approved proposing a $6.7 million general fund budget and $0.40 tax rate per $100 valuation for fiscal year 2024-25.

The breakdown

City officials are proposing $6.9 million in revenues and $6.7 million in expenditures, resulting in a $171,401 surplus, according to the city’s budget.

The proposed general fund revenues and expenses are 17% and 15% higher than the FY 2023-24 budget, respectively, according to the city’s budget.

The tax rate is proposed to be $0.40 per $100 valuation, which is the sixth consecutive year the city is proposing the same rate, according to prior reporting.

The general fund expenses include:
  • $2.7 million for the police department
  • $2.5 million for administration
  • $1.1 million for the public works department
  • $337,043 for the court department
During the meeting, an additional $90,000 was allocated to upgrade the police department's communications system, Assistant City Manager Dave McCorquodale said in an Aug. 15 email.
