Conroe city officials proposed a $129.6 million general fund budget for fiscal year 2024-25 at City Council’s first budget workshop meeting Aug. 1.

What’s happening

City officials are proposing $129.9 million in revenues and $129.6 million in expenditures, resulting in a $231,626 surplus, according to the city’s presentation.

The proposed general fund revenues and expenses are 3.3% and 4.2% higher than the FY 2023-24 budget, respectively, according to the city’s budget presentation.

The city’s preliminary assessed property valuation increased 7.7%—rising from $14.36 billion to $15.47 billion. The increase comes from new improvements and appraisals, according to the presentation. The overall tax rate is proposed to be $0.4272 per $100 valuation, which is the same rate as in FY 2023-24.

City officials are also proposing a $75.1 million capital improvement program budget for FY 2024-25—funding 40 projects.

  • 21 street projects for $49.9 million
  • Five facilities projects for $10.9 million
  • Seven signal projects for $6.1 million
  • Five drainage projects for $6 million
  • One park project for $1.6 million
  • One water project for $500,000

“I have to say that in all the years that I’ve been on City Council, this was probably one of the most productive City Council meetings, budget meetings,” council member Marsha Porter said during the Aug. 1 workshop. “So I’m very proud of the group.”

At its meetings Aug. 6-7, Conroe City Council is anticipated to approve proposing the FY 24-25 tax rate of $0.4272 per $100 valuation.

A public hearing on the budget is set for Aug. 22, and City Council will vote to approve the budget on Sept. 12, according to the budget presentation.
