In a special session held April 30, the Montgomery Central Appraisal District board of directors voted to fire Chief Appraiser Janet Jennings-Doyle following a "loss of confidence" by the board, according to the meeting minutes.

What happened?

A special meeting of the MCAD board of directors was called following a regular meeting on April 18, which included an executive session item to discuss the “matters relating to the chief appraiser."

During the April 30 meeting, Director Arthur Bredehoft made a motion to fire Jennings-Doyle for a number of reasons, including:
  • Mismanagement of position
  • Violation of the district's policy
  • Lack of candor with the board
“All of this has resulted in damage to the district and exposed it to even greater potential damage, including the loss of confidence from the taxing entities that the district reports to,” Bredehoft said during the meeting.

What’s next?

Board members did not respond to requests for comment on the matter as of May 14. Sherry Hunter, who also works within MCAD, was appointed as interim chief appraiser, according to meeting minutes.

Jennings-Doyle took over as interim appraiser for MCAD in October 2022 and was named the full-time chief appraiser in December 2022.
