At its Oct. 26 meeting, Conroe City Council approved an ordinance creating a 20-mph school zone along Longmire Road to accommodate Lake Conroe Christian Academy.
In a nutshell
The new 20-mph school zone will be located along Longmire Road, stretching about 200 feet away from the south driveway entrance to about 200 feet from the north driveway entrance of Lake Conroe Christian Academy, according to the Oct. 25 agenda packet. The speed limit will remain 45 mph elsewhere on Longmire Road.
What they're saying
During the public comment period at council’s Oct. 25 workshop meeting, Rebecca Broussard, the owner and director of Lake Conroe Christian Academy, said the school has about 240 students with plans to add another grade next year.
“We’ve seen some very near close accidents almost happen,” Broussard said. “We’re really trying to be proactive and not reactive and get some signage up.”
“In my professional opinion, I support it, and I think it warrants a school zone,” said Norman McGuire, the city’s assistant city administrator and director of public works, during the workshop meeting.
