In a May 30 release, Conroe announced the hiring of Morgan to head the CVB for Conroe. The Conroe Convention and Visitors Bureau, also known as Visit Conroe, serves the city’s visitors with information about the area. According to the release, Morgan previously served as the tourism coordinator from 2012-2017 and recently served as the executive director for the visitors center with the city of Nacogdoches.
"Success in Tourism is often defined solely based on how full our hotels are on any given day—which is crucial as hotel occupancy taxes fund tourism. But people shouldn't be viewed as mere dollar signs. My goal with Visit Conroe is to ensure that visitors feel welcomed to Conroe and come back for years to come. Conroe is my home, and it is my profound privilege to be allowed to serve," Morgan said in the release.
The position opened when Conroe fired the previous director, Shannon Overby, in April, according to previous reporting. After she was terminated, another staff member was fired and the two others in the department resigned and were relieved of responsibilities the same day, leaving the entire visitors bureau vacant.
Morgan will begin her role June 5. According to the release, Morgan will build a team to fill the vacant roles in the bureau.
