Conroe City Council members approved a resolution for the city’s COVID-19 Pandemic Relief Recovery Plan during meetings Jan. 12-13. The resolution addresses the needs of the city and allocates funds it received from the federal American Rescue Plan Act to five eligible projects that can start as early as March 3, according to Thomas Woolley, director of capital projects and transportation.

The city has identified and prioritized five projects with budgets ranging from $2.19 million to $4.99 million, according to the presentation. All five activities involve water or sewer rehabilitation, including new water lines, manholes and sewer pipes.

The city of Conroe received $15.84 million from the ARPA that is paid out in two parts, with the first $7.92 million received last June and the second half anticipated to be received this June, according to city information.

Council's vote supporting the relief recovery plan does not require the city to spend its federal dollars on the five projects outlined but details the list of potential expenditures that are eligible as defined by the U.S. Treasury, city documents state.

The city may use ARPA funds to cover eligible costs incurred from March 3, 2021, to Dec. 31, 2024.
