Montgomery County municipalities began 2022 by continuing to receive larger sales tax allocations as businesses continue to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Texas Comptroller’s office announced Jan. 12 a total of $992.9 million in allocations were made statewide to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts, which is a 26.8% increase from January 2021 and an increase from December's $936 million allocation. The allocations were made from business sales reported from November.

Conroe received the county’s highest allocation with $5.2 million in January, a 32.2% increase from the $3.9 million the city received in January 2021.

Magnolia received $432,776.08 and Montgomery received $281,476.57, making them the next highest recipients for municipalities with a 2% tax rate. Shenandoah, which has a 1.5% tax rate, received $584,390.23.

The Woodlands Township Economic Zone, one of the two special purpose districts that make up The Woodlands, received $2.6 million in January’s allocation, a 39.7% increase from the previous year.



The other special purpose district, which is named The Woodlands, received $2.7 million, a 22.7% increase from January 2021.
