The Montgomery County Animal Shelter announced on its Facebook page Oct. 19 that its stray animal intake services will reopen by appointment only beginning Oct. 23.
Montgomery County Animal Services temporarily closed stray intake services Aug. 16 due to a spike in distemper and other respiratory illnesses observed in shelter animals. In the Oct. 19 post, the shelter said the latest round of testing was “all clear except for two low positives.”
The shelter stressed the need for people who find stray animals to allow them to be vaccinated and to make sure their own pets are up to date on vaccinations.
People who find a stray animal can call 936-442-7738, option 2, to access animal control, which can provide guidance.
Animal services said due to the shelter’s struggles with capacity, intake services will focus on strays.
