Morgan Luttrell (R)*

Experience: 14-year combat veteran and special advisor at the Department of Energy

Why did you decide to run in this election?

As a veteran, father and Texan, I decided to run for office because I believe in serving our country both in and out of uniform. I want to ensure that my two young sons—and all of our children—grow up in a country where the American dream is achievable.

What is your top priority, if elected?

My top priority is ensuring the safety and security of our nation and our communities, especially as we face the [Joe] Biden-[Kamala] Harris administration’s border crisis. We need to bolster our security across the board: strengthen national defense, support law enforcement and secure our southern border.

What do you think are the biggest challenges facing District 8?

As a district directly impacted by the border crisis and located in the Houston area, we face a serious threat from human trafficking. Houston is ranked as the number one city in the nation for this crime. While many might think, 'this could never happen to my child,' the reality…

What specific policies or initiatives do you propose to address the issues you’ve identified?

I’ve been working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to effectively tackle the border crisis and harden our national defense. I have introduced legislation to combat human trafficking, crack down on cartel activity, increase support for border patrol agents and strengthen our overall defense of our nation. I’m…

How do you plan to engage and listen to the needs of your constituents?

I will continue to hold regular town halls, community roundtables and meet-and-greet events across the district. It is my priority to be accessible and open to hearing from the people I represent. I also work to maintain a strong social media presence to keep folks up to date in real…

Why did you decide to run in this election?

I'm running because, as an average hard working American, I understand the daily challenges faced by most. I relate to these struggles and believe that someone with my background can truly represent and advocate for the needs of hard working Americans. I'm one of us, running for all of us.

What is your top priority, if elected?

My top priority is to fulfill the will of the people by writing and passing bills that enhance the daily lives of average Americans. I am committed to addressing the real concerns of our communities and ensuring that legislation effectively improves their quality of life.

What do you think are the biggest challenges facing District 8?

District 8 faces significant challenges, including restoring women's reproductive rights, ensuring affordable health care and providing affordable housing. Addressing these issues is crucial for improving the quality of life for all residents and ensuring equity and opportunity within our communities.

What specific policies or initiatives do you propose to address the issues you’ve identified?

I propose codifying Roe v. Wade with federal protections, expanding the Affordable Care Act and supporting [Kamala] Harris’s affordable housing plan. These initiatives will strengthen women’s rights, lower health care costs and enhance affordable housing to better serve District 8 residents.

How do you plan to engage and listen to the needs of your constituents?

I plan to engage by regularly attending community events, speaking at civic meetings and participating in worship services. By meeting people where they are, I’ll listen directly to their concerns and needs, ensuring their voices are heard and represented.
