After taking input from the public, the Conroe ISD board of trustees decided on Jan. 23 to keep the 2025-26 calendar as it was originally planned, with spring break set for the week of March 9, 2026.

Breaking it down

Less than 6,000 people completed a response to a survey asking for input on the CISD 2025-26 calendar, down from 16,000 the previous year, said Hedith Sauceda-Upshaw, the district's assistant superintendent for teaching and learning.

Of the respondents, 46% preferred the March 9-13 spring break, while 54% favored holding it in the week of March 16-20, according to information presented at the meeting. However, the board opted to stay with the March 9 date.

Officials said among the factors they preferred the current calendar were Daylight Saving Time occuring at the beginning of the week of March 9. Sauceda-Upshaw said the week off being held immediately after the time change may be preferable for students as a "buffer week" to adjust to an earlier start to the day.

Quote of note

Misty Odenweller, president of the CISD board of trustees, said she was not eager to change the plan which had been adopted the year before.

"While 54% were in favor ... I don't want to go and change things on people ... when it's been public for over a year," Odenweller said.
