Conroe ISD will be asking the public for feedback on spring break dates for the 2025-26 school year following discussion at its Dec. 17 meeting.

What to know

In early 2024, the previous CISD board of trustees adopted the 2025-26 school calendar, setting spring break for a week that differed from those set by Lone Star College and other Texas colleges. At the time CISD adopted its calendar, the institutions had not released their 2025-26 calendars, according to the board's agenda packet.

In a presentation, Hedith Sauceda-Upshaw, the district's assistant superintendent for teaching and learning, presented the board with a list of calendars for Texas universities such as The University of Texas, as well as surrounding school districts.

The spring break dates in the region include:
  • March 9-13: Baylor University, Blinn College, Cleveland ISD, Cy-Fair ISD, Katy ISD, Spring Branch ISD, Tomball ISD, Willis ISD
  • March 16-20: Lone Star College, Sam Houston State University, Texas A&M University, Texas State University, Texas Tech University, University of Houston, University of Texas, University of Texas at San Antonio, Spring ISD, Klein ISD
  • March 23-27: Magnolia ISD
The undetermined districts included Humble, Montgomery, New Caney and Splendora ISDs.

Deputy Superintendent Bethany Medford said the universities base their spring break weeks around March 15. The discrepancy with LSC in particular could cause challenges, officials said.

“Our dual-credit classes are through Lone Star, and if we are not aligned with Lone Star it does create a two-week gap on when we send kids to Lone Star facilities,” Superintendent Curtis Null said at the meeting.

What they’re saying

“Because we did adopt a two-year calendar, I would like more time and let the January District Planning Committee meeting happen and get some additional feedback,” trustee Melissa Dungan said.

“I would say we should [approve the spring break date] tonight because some people plan a year ahead, and they are already looking at this calendar even for spring break since some people have that already planned or looking for a place,” trustee Tiffany Baumann Nelson said.

What’s next

The District Planning Committee, which is responsible for providing assistance to the superintendent in areas including planning, will meet Jan. 15.
