The Montgomery ISD board of trustees received an update on the $326.9 million bond package approved by voters in May.

According to the district’s website, bond projects are scheduled through a four-year timeline from 2023-26. Kris Lynn, assistant superintendent of finance and operations, gave a presentation to the board wrapping up work done in 2022 and laying out a timeline for what the community can expect to see in 2023.

“I know we aren’t visually seeing things right now, but as we wrap up the last six months, we have hired three contractors, and we have Elementary [No.] 7 and Lake Creek High School editions designed,” he said. “Pending [board] approval in January, we have renovations to Montgomery Junior High, Lincoln Elementary and Montgomery Elementary School done. We also have already started a significant portion of the design work for the CTE and Ag Science Center. So, while we can’t visually see it, we have been busy, and we are very proud of the amount of work that we have accomplished since the bond was passed in May.”

The below information is a combination of notes from the board presentation and bond updates on the MISD website.

Creekside Elementary School

Designs are complete for Elementary No. 7, which in an earlier agenda item the board approved naming Creekside Elementary School. Once designs are approved, architects can finalize the construction documents and get it ready for bid in March. The board will need to approve a guaranteed maximum price in April before construction can begin in May. Creekside Elementary School is scheduled to open in August 2024.

Lake Creek High School addition

Phase 2 of Lake Creek High School is set to open in August 2024. LCHS upgrades include the addition of labs and classrooms to increase student capacity by 900.

CTE, Ag Science Center

The design committee agreed on programs that will be included in the facility and will present a preliminary floor plan to the board after the new year. Discussion for potential layout on the Ag Science Center is still ongoing.

Existing campus upgrades

Renovation designs for Montgomery Junior High, Lincoln Elementary and Montgomery Elementary are complete. The bid process will begin in January. Some campuses will begin construction at the end of March, early April.

MHS Auxiliary Stadium lighting

Replacing the lighting at the Montgomery High School Auxiliary Stadium is slated to start in April after the soccer season. Repairs will be a monthlong process with a completion date of May 15. Cost approval will be presented at the Jan. 17 board of trustees meeting.

Montgomery HS, athletic complex

The request for qualifications was released for renovations to the Montgomery High School and athletic complex. Contractor recommendations will be brought to the board at the January workshop.
