Rebecca Broussard is joining the Lone Star College board of trustees. She was sworn in by Texas State Sen. Brandon Creighton on Dec. 8 at the Lone Star College System Office in The Woodlands.

"I've really looked forward to this moment since I started my campaign," she said. "Sen. Brandon Creighton is a dear friend of ours. He is a family friend. It is very important to me that I was able to have him swear me in and have my family around us."

Before being elected to the LSCS board, Broussard said she spent 21 years on the Willis ISD board of trustees.

"I want to serve the students, the taxpayers and the constituents of this area," she said. "I am excited because Willis, Conroe, that's my area. I'm excited to be serving District 7."

The Lone Star College System will hold its next board meeting Dec. 13 at 5 p.m. in the LSC System Office. According to the Dec. 13 meeting agenda, candidates elected to districts 5,6 and 7 will take the oath of office during the upcoming meeting.

Broussard said after meeting many of the board members in person Dec. 7, she is excited to begin working alongside her mentors.

"I knew the skeleton of Lone Star College," she said. "It is just so much bigger and more massive than I thought, but I'm a learner. I learn quick. I'm ready to delve in and start my first board meeting next Tuesday. It's an exciting time."
