After Weatherford ISD named Montgomery ISD Superintendent Beau Rees as the lone finalist for its new superintendent position, MISD is now looking to hire its own new superintendent.

At its April 13 livestreamed board meeting, trustees unanimously voted to release a request for proposals for search firms to advice the board on the hiring of a new superintendent.

The board had convened in closed session discuss the superintendent transition prior to its vote. Trustee Matt Fuller made the motion, and neither the trustees or superintendent discussed the decision during the meeting.

Two public comments were submitted to the board and were read out loud by Rees prior to closed session.

In his public comment, Montgomery resident Shawn Denison posed several questions to the board. Because it was during public comment, board members, by law, could not respond to questions.

Denison asked if the board would make a motion to prevent Rees from making any executive decisions regarding promotions of current staff, hiring new staff or increasing salaries of current administrators.

“I would like to see an outside person in the role until a candidate is found,” Denison added. “I believe this would help prevent any tensions from anyone in the district and those who might apply for the position, too.”
