The unanimous vote took place during a special meeting April 9. Texas law requires the WISD board wait 21 days before formally approving a contract with Rees, according to WISD.
“We believe Dr. Rees and his family will be a great fit for our school district and community,” Mike Guest, president of the WISD board of trustees, said in a statement. “His desire to support teachers and engage students combined with his experience as a superintendent for two school districts are key reasons for his selection.”
Rees issued the following statement:
"Montgomery is a fantastic community with a 'can do' attitude, especially when it comes to kids and education. It has been a wonderful eight years and so many talented teachers have made such an impact. There are so many positive memories, including two of our daughters graduating from Montgomery High School. The Bears and Lions will be forever engraved in our hearts."
