After serving the Navy for 20 years as a helicopter pilot, Dan McKaughan’s last station of duty brought him to Monterey, California, where he and his wife, Stacie McKaughan, were introduced to Crepes of Brittany.

After mastering the art of crepes, the couple made it their next mission to bring the business back to their home of Montgomery, opening the eatery in December.

How it happened

Montgomery High School sweethearts and longtime residents, Dan and Stacie McKaughan were introduced to Crepes of Brittany while living in California in 2023.

After discovering the crepe eatery, the two became friends with the owners and were given the opportunity to expand the business to Texas, Dan McKaughan said.

“We had crepes before but had forgotten how good they are,” he said.

The couple said what they enjoyed most about Crepes of Brittany was the French traditional style of crepes it offered.

Craving crepes?

Crepes of Brittany uses traditional French methods of cooking with buckwheat-based savory batter and crepe griddles from France. The eatery offers both sweet and savory crepes with two different types of batter made freshly every morning.

Each crepe is made to order with all ingredients made in-house, from the whipped cream to the caramel and sauces. Customer favorites include the ham, egg and cheese crepe and the strawberry cream cheese crepe.

“Our savory crepes [are] rendered buckwheat, so they're not pretty. They come out kind of brown, but it's really good,” Dan McKaughan said. “It just fits your proteins and your vegetables and stuff like that, but, but it's not for everybody, but I would say 98% of the people seem to enjoy it.”

The eatery also offers French breakfast, from traditional breakfast options such as Stacie’s Breakfast made with two eggs, house potatoes and two choices of meat between bacon, lamb, ham or sausage.

In addition, Crepes of Brittany offers pastries such as baguettes and muffins imported from France as well as coffee from Katz Coffee, a Houston roastery that supports local nonprofits.

To support the community, Dan McKaughan said a portion of the proceeds made from coffee sales at Crepes of Brittany are donated to the nonprofit Camp Hope.
