La Madeleine, located at 247 S. Loop 336 W., Ste. 700, opened its first Conroe location March 15. The new location is a part of the French-owned company's growth initiative, according to a March 14 news release. The first store opened in Dallas in 1983 and now has 80 locations in North America.

“With Texas serving as the birthplace of la Madeleine, it brings us joy to partner with local franchise owners to open new cafés in different cities across the state,” Kerri McLeroy, La Madeleine vice president of marketing, said in a news release. “We look forward to sharing our culinary traditions and bringing a little French escape to Conroe.”

La Madeleine serves all-day breakfast options, sandwiches, soups and salads including the popular Caesar salad. The cafe also serves entrées and doubles as a traditional French bakery. The establishment sells retail items in store as well.

The grand opening event gave the first 250 guests free bread for one year. The giveaway, according to the release, is part of a long-time opening tradition the brand calls “rompre le pain”–the breaking of bread together.
