Previously, Nash said she worked in health care for 18 years but decided to quit her day job and pursue her passion for wine. After owning a winery for 10 years in downtown Montgomery called Cork This, she decided she wanted an avenue to sell beer as well.
After exploring other avenues, she opened Cork This Tap That in Montgomery.
On the menu is a variety of sweet wines bottled and on tap as well as beers, burgers, wraps, barbecue sandwiches and wings. The eclectic restaurant also offers indoor and outdoor seating.
“I want you to leave by saying, ‘Wow, that was a really great time,’” Nash said.
Nash said the hardest aspect of starting the restaurant has been staffing. She said she either has too many servers or not enough and is working to find a balance.
“I never thought I’d work harder than I did in health care. ... And this is worse,” Nash said.
She said despite the challenges, the community has made the journey worth it. She said her mission for the restaurant is to create a family environment. She has taken steps—fencing in the backyard and becoming pet friendly—because she believes families should have a place their kids can enjoy, too.Nash said she wants to cultivate an environment that brings the community together, whether it be through food, music or fellowship. The restaurant features live music on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
In addition, she said she is working on adding corn hole for customers to play while waiting on their food.
“My friends said ‘Don’t do it [open the restaurant].’ But I am very stubborn, and I am very determined, and I know this palace will be successful,” Nash said.
