Montgomery County Public Health District confirmed the 33rd death related to the coronavirus in Montgomery County on June 15. A woman in her 80s from Cleveland passed away in the hospital.

Meanwhile, the number of active cases of coronavirus increased from 479 on June 12 to 498 on June 15. This is the second-highest reported total of active cases in the county, following the spike May 19 with 539.

The June 15 number includes seven hospitalizations of Montgomery County residents, and 769 people have fully recovered. The number of total positive cases has increased 42 since June 12 to 1,300.

In a June 12 Facebook post, County Judge Mark Keough attributed the recent spike in cases to two factors: an increase in testing and a spike in cases at a federal detention center in the county. Community Impact Newspaper has reached out to MCPHD for more information on this detention center but has not yet received comments as of publication time.

The seven-day new case average decreased June 15 from June 12, which had the highest peak. Cases are not reported on weekends.

The county also reported its lowest hospitalization rate of Montgomery County residents to date.
