The Woodlands-based VGXI Inc. will move its headquarters to Conroe's Deison Technology Park in January 2022, according to a press release from the Conroe Economic Development Council. VGXI, a manufacturer of plasmid DNA for vaccines and gene therapies, first announced it was producing a vaccine for the coronavirus in early January with a clinical study beginning in late summer.

The planned 240,000 square-foot facility will greatly expand the company's capacity to "manufacture more urgent vaccine solutions," according to the press release. For example, VGXI's current largest fermentor is 500 liters, but in the new facility, it will utilize fermentors that have a 1,500-liter capacity. These fermentors are used to multiply cells used to make vaccines.
