Gary Palmer was appointed the Montgomery city administrator during a regular City Council meeting.

According to a release given by Sanford to Community Impact, Palmer has previously served as city administrator for the city of Roswell, Georgia, and the assistant manager for Farragut, Tennessee.

According to previous reporting, Montgomery City Administrator Richard Tramm was fired by council in a 3-1 vote. During a May 31 meeting, council appointed Assistant City Administrator Dave McCorquodale as interim city administrator. During an Oct. 25 meeting, Montgomery City Council discussed following through with an internal review of McCorquodale stating concerns of job performance and work record as the foundation for the review.

"This is the last meeting I will sit as city administrator," McCorquodale said during he meeting. "There is no way I could have done this without the staff we have here; they are outstanding at what they do and they will always pick up and help and get stuff done, so thanks to them and thanks to you [council]."

Mayor Byron Sanford concluded the meeting by saying the city will be extending the contract to Palmer. According to the release, Palmer will begin his new role Jan. 6.
