Individuals with an interest in photography will soon have a chance to showcase their work and win prize money as well as draw attention to the city of Montgomery.

The Montgomery Economic Development Corp. board voted to approve conducting a photo contest featuring scenic scenes in the city at its May 17 meeting. The images would become property of the city and the MEDC.

"[The] contest ... would involve iconic buildings, scenic sites throughout the city and things like that," said City Administrator Richard Tramm, who presented the agenda item.

Details of the contest, such as the entry deadlines, are still in the works, but there may be separate categories for photo submissions, such as buildings and nature. The first place prize is currently set at $100, with $50 for second and $25 for third. A collection of cups leftover from an event that feature the city's Monty the Goat will be used as honorable prizes, Tramm said.

The board approved the item with an expense not to exceed $1,000.
