Event officials have canceled the 2017 MODAERO Festival & Air Show, which was scheduled for June 2-4 at the Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport.
The festival was first held in 2016 and featured aviation exhibits and a career fair, but significant legal requirements to proceed with the event's first air show in 2017 made it difficult to attain governmental approval for the festival and the plan for the air show, event founder Brian Columbus said in a statement.
"As a first-year air show, we feel it would not be prudent to proceed with the current preparations, without these advanced approvals in place and additional time for potential changes in operations," Columbus said. "We will continue to work closely with the airport, governmental authorities, exhibitors, sponsors and volunteers to reschedule this one-of-a-kind event."
Airport Director Scott Smith said discussions are being held to reschedule the event, potentially in April 2018. He said hosting the event in April will also help the airshow avoid the typically rainy months of May and June in Montgomery County.
