Montgomery City Council met April 25 to discuss a variety of items including alcohol beverage permit applications and funding for infrastructure projects. All council members were present with the exception of Position 1 Council Member Jon Bickford. Here are a few highlights from the meeting. To view the full agenda, click here. 1. Alcohol Beverage permit applications submitted by The Kroger Company and Stoney’s Liquor-Montgomery were unanimously approved. The Kroger Company applied for a wine and beer retailer’s off-premise permit for the new store slated to open at 20168 Eva Street, Montgomery this summer. Stoney’s Liquor-Montgomery, which will open in the Kroger shopping center later this year at 20212 Eva Street, Ste. 240, Montgomery, applied for a package store permit, beer retail dealer’s off-premise license, local distributor’s permit and package store tasting permit. Both permit applications were unanimously approved by the council. 2. Montgomery Economic Development Corporation funding was approved to pay for infrastructure projects in a 3-1 vote. After much debate among council members, the council approved approximately $120,000 of Montgomery EDC funding to be used for the Houston Street rehabilitation project, a water line placement in Houston Street and a water line placement on Hwy. 105 at Houston Street. Position 4 Council Member Rebecca Huss voted in opposition of the use of funds, asserting that the project was not a priority and that the Montgomery EDC would not see enough of a benefit from funding the projects. 3. The council unanimously adopted a resolution supporting a proposal by Entergy Texas, Inc. to construct a Montgomery County Power Station. The proposal shows the city’s support for Entergy Texas, Inc. to expand the Lewis Creek Plant east of Willis, to meet the increased demand for energy in Montgomery County.
