Montgomery City Council made a series of unanimous decisions on Tuesday related to water and sewer projects, alcohol beverage permits, Entergy rates and street names during its April 11 meeting. The council unanimously approved the name change of Washington Street to McWashington Street, in honor of Timothy McWashington. McWashington served Montgomery Independent School District as head of maintenance and was on the MISD School Board for nine year—seven of which he served as the board president. A ceremony will be held April 29 at 10:30 a.m. to unveil the new street name sign. 2. The council unanimously approved ordinances authorizing certificates of obligation for sewer and water projects. The$1.09 million sewer projects certificate is a part of a 20-year loan at an interest rate of 1.357 percent from the Texas Water Development Board. The water project certificate is in the amount of $1.73 million as part of another 20-year loan at an interest rate of 1.691 percent from the TWDB. Also related to water projects, the council authorized the Jones and Carter Engineering Firm to design improvements for one of its water plants and design two waterline replacement projects along Hwy. 105 and FM 149. 3. The council unanimously approved an ordinance asking the Public Utility Commission to suspend an Entergy rate request for 45 days to allow time for comment. 4. The council unanimously accepted a utility and feasibility study for The Shoppes at Montgomery, a 26-acre development planned for the southwest corner of FM 2854 and Hwy. 105. 5. The council scheduled public hearings from two different alcohol beverage permits—one for Stoney’s Liquor and one for the Kroger Company. Both hearings will be held during the council’s next meeting April 25.
