After growing up around the auto repair industry, Legacy Auto Repair owners Emily and Leona McCleskey said they followed their dreams and opened their own shop in Conroe.

Legacy Auto Repair celebrated its one-year anniversary March 1.

Emily McCleskey, a third-generation auto shop owner, said her grandparents purchased Houston Automatic Transmission in 1978, and her grandfather was the president of the Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association in the 1980s. In addition, her father launched a Houston Automatic Transmission north side location that is still open at 18902 Hwy. 249, Houston, which was also run by her brother at one point in time, Emily said.

After managing a repair shop in Tomball, Emily said she began running Cars Complete in Conroe, which later became Legacy Auto Repair. When Leona was laid off in the safety and refinery industry, the couple began looking for a place to open a shop, Emily said.

“It was just one of those perfect timing things, ... and we ended up here [in Conroe], where I already knew the customer base and the community,” Emily said.

The McCleskeys bought Cars Complete from the previous owner and reopened the shop with a new name to honor their family history in the industry.

“We chose ‘legacy’ as a tribute to the family,” Emily said. “That’s what my grandparents created was a legacy of doing things the right way, taking care of the customers and making sure things were done right the first time.”

Whether it be a mom with kids or a client on lunch, Emily said she focuses on the customer.

“We will work with you on anything that we can, and if we can’t do a full repair or because it’s not in your budget, we’re going to help you find the best avenue to get you there,” she said.
