The League City Public Works Department is working to ensure bayous, ponds, ditches and drains are clear of waste and scrap ahead of the heavy rain expected this weekend in the Bay Area.
According to a city press release, City Manager John Baumgartner said staff is monitoring city water outlets.
"We have crews out and about throughout the community checking for debris and removing it from the inlets and ditches in our area," Baumgartner said, according to the release.
The city urges residents to call 311 and report anything they see blocking the waterways or drains.
Additionally, Emergency Management Department Director Ryan Edgehill is working with the National Weather Service to observe the storm system and have response teams ready to help residents in case of emergencies.
"We have a plan in place to activate additional staff if need be, and police, fire and EMS are ready and prepared should they need to call in additional people to assist our residents," Edgehill said in the release.
Thunderstorms are expected to bring 2 to 4 inches of rain to League City and up to 8 inches in isolated areas. The city has already received 7 to 9 inches of rainfall over the last few days, according to the release.
City staff is urging residents to take precaution and avoid flooded streets and roadways.
