Two months after Friendswood City Council declined to take action on a developer’s plan to build on the former Sunmeadow golf course, the proposed development is on the Aug. 1 meeting agenda. The council held a workshop July 11 on revised plans for Friendswood Trails, a residential development that would add more than 400 homes and include 80 acres of parks and green space. Sugar Land-based Parke Patterson Land Development has been working with City Council and the Planning and Zoning Commission on the project since March. The developer met with the Sunmeadow Homeowners Association board in June 2015 to discuss plans for the 263 acres of vacant land. The site includes the old golf course, which closed about 15 years ago, officials said. Friendswood Trails was adjusted multiple times since the start of the zone-change process to address a variety of concerns, including lot sizes, density, drainage and traffic. The development went before City Council on June 6 but no vote was taken after the item failed to receive a second motion for discussion. Because the council did not vote on the plan, the developer did not have to restart the zone-change process, officials said. P&Z unanimously recommended approval of the project April 21. The development will need to pass on two readings. The City Council meeting Aug. 1 begins at 4:30 p.m.
