Sugar Land Crime prevention cameras at a number of locations throughout Sugar Land have been installed and are up and running.

Last year Sugar Land City Council approved a $1.6 million contract to install crime prevention cameras at 27 locations in the city. A majority of the cameras were installed in the city north of Hwy. 90.

The program creates a network of license plate recognition cameras at entrances and exits to the city to help identify, arrest and convict criminals, said Doug Adolph, assistant communications director for Sugar Land.

“The city’s expanded use of LPR cameras at static locations throughout the city will help solve crimes after they occur by providing police officers a searchable database of license plates,” Adolph said. “The system may also serve as a crime deterrent. If criminals know that cameras are in place, they may be less likely to commit crimes.”
