Big decisions made in 2014



  • Central processing center—Commissioners Court and the city of Houston moved forward on a decision to build a central processing center for the jail, following a November 2013 bond referendum. The center will be more efficient location for police officers and provide space for mental health care.

  • Sexually oriented business—A policy was crafted regarding greater enforcement of laws for sexually oriented businesses. The new policy allows officers to close sexually oriented businesses that were operating illegally.


Top issues for 2015



  • The Astrodome—Commissioners will consider possible long-term solutions and funding sources for what to do with the former sports stadium.

  • Transportation—Although the Grand Parkway segments F-1, F-2 and G and the Tomball Tollway are scheduled to open in 2015, the stresses on roadways continue to suffer from congestion due to an increase in population. Commissioners court will have to find how much new construction of roads the county can afford.


Meetings

The court meets twice monthly in 2015 except in May and November. Meetings are held at 10 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month in the courtroom of the court at 1001 Preston Ave., Houston.

Terms and compensation

Commissioners and the county judge serve rotating four-year terms. The county judge receives $173,800 per year while commissioners earn $165,900 per year.
