Several well-known Houstonians, from Gallery Furniture owner Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale, to the Texans' J.J. Watt, are stepping up in a time of need.

Mattress Mack opened up his heart and his stores to his community for anyone needing shelter after Hurricane Harvey, allowing the public come in and sleep on his stores' furniture, as well as get a bite to eat from the cafes he's known for.



Now, he's also looking for help from the community to keep paying it forward.

Gallery Furniture is collecting cleaning supplies to donate to those in need to begin the vital process of cleaning up their homes and places of business. All Gallery Furniture locations, I-45 North (between Tidwell and Parker), Post Oak in the Galleria area and Grand Parkway in Richmond are accepting donations of cleaning products including:

Mops
Brooms
Bleach
disinfectants
Gloves
Protective masks
Sponges
Tarps
Duct tape
Shovels
Heavy-duty garbage bags
Box fans (to circulate air)

Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr.'s foundation is also working directly to help Houston shelters and volunteers secure donations. The foundation will be collecting donations to assist with the transport of animals to safety so they will not be euthanized due to displacement from the storm. To find out more or donate, click here.
