Little Scholars’ Academy co-owner Aziz Lakhani said the business stands out because it is a family-owned preschool and day care in a market saturated with national chains.

“We don’t have any franchise or any headquarters that we have to go to—all decisions are made here,” Lakhani said. “Parents see that, and they feel like they’re a part of it.”

This flexibility also allows Little Scholars, which opened in September, to provide courses, such as yoga, cooking, music and movement and daily Spanish classes to children. Little Scholars plans to add sports to its course offerings in January, Director Subreena Somani said.
