Less than one year after opening their first gym in Cypress in July 2013, Justin and Jennifer Baker had a second location up and running at Vintage Park. These days, Justin finds himself spending an equal amount of time overseeing both gyms as he continues to add and strengthen services.
Justin said part of the reason his gyms have been so well-received is because he follows the three Cs—cleanliness, convenience and making sure his members feel comfortable.
"This is a place for people who aren't necessarily gym people, but are just looking to make a positive change to their health or lifestyle," he said. "We're a neighborhood gathering place—like a community bar without the beers."
The Anytime Fitness chain is known for providing members with 24/7 access via key fobs. Justin's locations also give access to a variety of training videos on a projector screen, a hydromassage bed, vending machines and spray tanning services. The key can also be swiped at exercise machines to track progress.
In an effort to make new members more confident, Justin introduced orientation programs to go over how all the equipment in the gym is used.
To further strengthen the gym's connection to the community, the owners collect donations for a different local charity every month, matching donations up to $5 per member. January's charity is Shots for Holly, which provides flu shots to those in need.
