Although Chicago Joe's opened Nov. 1, the restaurant portion of the business has already seen an overhaul.
General manager and chef Eric Gondouin took over as food manager in December because owner Joe Becker felt one ingredient was missing from the restaurant: passion.
"When I was just a child I used to help mom in the kitchen," Becker said. "She had a passion for cooking."
The staff has since added seafood to the menu. However, the main attraction is the Chicago deep dish pizza, Gondouin said.
In addition to the dueling piano bar, Becker said he is trying to also find local talent to play one or two nights a week. Piano players are booked through January, but Becker is considering other piano players in February and March. Until then, Joe's will host guest bands and local disc jockeys.
In addition to the piano bar, restaurant and night club, the business books events in its banquet hall.
