Easel Street

Since Easel Street opened in October 2014, owner Mary Tipton has updated the site of her mother-in-law Dora's former art studio of nearly 40 years with a new name, concept and customer base.

"This building has quite a history in that it used to be called Dora's Art Depot," Tipton said. "[Dora Tipton] taught oil painting lessons for the last 38 years here. Dora retired, and I thought it would be neat to keep something artsy going on here."

After Dora's Art Depot closed in May 2013, Tipton joined forces with sister studio The Paint Pub in Houston to open Tomball's first paint and sip studio with beer and wine available on-site.

The studio seats up to 30 people in the indoor painting area and can accommodate about 100 people for fundraisers, company gatherings and birthday parties. The business offers painting and crafting classes with provided supplies for a variety of mediums, including canvas, glass, wood and Pinterest projects.

The studio's motto, "Bringing Tomball fun to the other side of the tracks," references the building's location and long-standing history across the railroad in Old Town Tomball, Tipton said.

"We're very unique in that it's a fun place to come and when you leave, you take something with you that's a treasured memory," she said.
